Creating Strong Bonds

Some call them intergenerational activities, but to simplify, they are interactions between seniors in loss of autonomy and their grandchildren. Why is this activity the most popular of any activity for seniors? It is simply because children do not judge. They develop a privileged relationship with their grandparents without asking any questions about their condition. Seniors feel valued and empowered because they can help children make a puzzle, walk around the block or read a story. Often, we’re hesitant to bring children with us to care facilities as we don’t want to disturb. But truth is that the laughs and screams of children are so stimulating for seniors who are no longer in contact with everyday sounds.

If we still live at home, why not simply ask our children to come visit once a week with our grandchildren? It’s a free activity that may substitute the need for anxiety or depression medication. Smiles guaranteed!
