This is a ‘must have’ book for anybody working in dementia care. The focus of this book is supporting individuals with dementia in a “prepared environment”.  Emphasis is on connecting what you know about the person (including spared capacity/abilities) to observations, and then deciding “what to do” based on what you know, thus creating appropriate supports that can help each people with dementia to be the best they can be.  The emphasis is placed on meeting needs, particularly related to boredom, loneliness, finding things and locations and ending every activity, including activities of daily living, with success. Practical tools are provided along with case examples.  The goal of the book is to help those in dementia care to enable abilities, enrich lives, enhance independence and engage those with dementia in life and living with meaning and purpose.
